Traditional Interior Design

Traditional interior design encompasses a great variety of elements in a home. From the ceilings to the floor; including the trim, the wall finishes--all the way to the window treatments and the furniture.

The careful designer must focus attention on each of these items in order to create the ideal design. Lighting, wall treatments, flooring, and furniture are all fundamental steps in creating a smooth design. Each of these elements should tie in carefully with the last, creating an interchanging staircase of design. Theme, color, texture, and placement are the tools with which you are to design this delicate stairway.
Themes of traditional interior design vary from traditional to modernistic, from eclectic to yes--even retro. The decision of theme should (in my opinion) be left entirely up to the individual homeowner or business owner. Each person has a message they would like to convey to the world through their space. It is your job, as the designer, to listen to their wants and needs and to develop a solution that suits them perfectly.
If the client is having difficulty in assessing his or her design needs, provide them catalogs or magazines to browse through. Traditional interior design is a concept that is simple and everyone should be able to understand. After browsing through magazines and determining what appeals to them visually, it would be a good idea to ask them about their lifestyle needs.
Most clients with children will definitely need to keep the cost modest of their furniture. If the person is active socially and plans on entertaining, you will want to be sure to organize any recreational spaces in a way that is ideal for that type of entertaining.
Once the basic theme has been decided upon, the next major set of choices will be what colors to base those themes on. I always advise clients that it is better to fit the color with the space than the person in this situation. Does that sound unfair?
Many clients will associate their first color selection with their favorite color. A favorite color and wall paint sometimes don’t mix very well. Traditional interior design motivates the color choices more towards colors that match the room’s needs. This is so because very often you will find that even if a client is less then enthusiastic about the color selection, after the room has been painted and they have had the chance to see it, they change their minds quickly.
Try to offer this type of solution to your client in an encouraging, helpful way rather then with a know-it-all attitude. If they are still not very enthusiastic, try to show them pictures of similar colors in catalogs to give them a better feel of how it will look. Catalogs and magazines are an endless resource for things like this because it offers people a little insight into how designs play out.
All right, you have a theme in mind and a palette of colors to work from. What’s next in traditional interior design?
It honestly depends on the magnitude and scope of the project. Choose your wall treatments and get those out of the way if you intend on making any flooring changes. Don’t become hasty and have new flooring installed or the existing flooring refinished only to paint over the top of it while applying your wall treatment. Once the walls have been complete and allowed time to properly dry, then is the time to make flooring changes.
Flooring! Traditional interior design offers so many choices for all types of flooring; it is best to base this choice upon the needs and lifestyle of your clients. If they have children, suggest that easily washable, flat surfaced flooring is used with the compliment of a large rug in any recreational room. These rooms will be the rooms that are used the most often and are danger areas for anyone with kids or children. Explain to them that the rug is easily replaced but carpeting is not!!!
When the ‘canvas’ is ready (the bare bones of the room), it is time for you to treat any windows before you begin moving furniture in and things get crowded. For small rooms, open them up by adding more light using sheer window coverings. The same idea with dark rooms that need a little extra light. Make ‘short’ rooms tall using window-to-floor curtains or draperies in contrast to short furniture.
Traditional interior design includes MANY alternatives to window coverings that will fit any home. Keep in mind while doing this the activity on the outside of the window as much as you do to the appearance on the inside of it. If it is a very open window and the setting of the home does not offer much privacy, they will probably want privacy window coverings. After your windows are complete, hang any wall accessories before proceeding to the next step.
Time to bring in the furniture! A few key rules to remember while positioning furniture in traditional interior design: first, create lines and continuity. Second, be sure to create adequate walking space. Third, don’t over clutter. And fourth, be creative.
Once your furniture is in place and has been ‘tested’, it is time to accessorize. Traditional interior design normally does this by placing a few instrumental accessories into place. Simplicity is elegant and too many accessories can lead to an uncomfortable room.
Try to purchase well-defined items that can even make great conversational pieces. If the homeowners are hands-on and involvedHealth Fitness Articles, get them to add personal touches by creating an accessory themselves.
Traditional interior design is a catch-all that incorporates the workability and usability with the beauty of a room. Achieve the perfect balance by properly combining these items and you will be successful!

Interior Design Ideas for Modern Kitchens

The most intriguing challenge that haunts an interior designer while setting up the design of a modern kitchen is space management. Unlike the yester years, not many of the modern families stay in bungalows or family mansions which have all the space in the world to utilize. Majority of the modern apartments, especially in urban Indian cities are pigeon's holes and space management is the key to fine living. You will find a lot of space-saving furniture which are especially deigned keeping in mind these modern apartments and in kitchens too, things are no different. The interior design ideas for modern kitchen are based on this concept and the designers are coming up with innovative ideas that not only saves space but enable you to fit in as many items in as minimal space as possible.
Apart from this, another factor that you may come across while browsing the best interior design websites, is a clever use of color for kitchens. Though in the western society there is a propensity of using white as a standard color for the kitchen cabinets, keeping in mind the Indian way of preparing food and all the spices and oil we use while cooking that may not be the best idea. Using a darkish color, preferably the wood colored cabinets is a better idea in the Indian context.
In case you are lured to use a more dramatic color to keep away the boredom of everyday stuffs like cooking and arranging meals, I would advise to choose colors very cleverly and make sure that the color of the cabinet actually 'goes' with the rest of the kitchen. Be innovative in implementing your interior design ideas. You should choose the color and style of the cabinet so that they are fit with the get up of a modern & contemporary kitchen. One way of doing this is by painting the walls with a contrast color so that the color of the cabinet strikes you.
A safe way of choosing colors for kitchen interior design ideas is to go for a palette of neutral colors. This will really help you to blend the color of the cabinet with the rest of the fittings in your kitchen. You can also refer to the colors of the stones on the floor or the wall tiles to design the cabinet and other furniture (if any) in your kitchen.
If you see that the look you are trying to give to your kitchen asks for installation of some additional tumbled marble or ceramic backsplash, you may opt for that. This will surely give your kitchen the much needed cohesion so that cabinets won't stand out as the "odd ones" any longer. For that, you can take the help of the house interior design pictures that you will find online.
Now, let us turn our attention to your kitchen doors. Generally, people look for plain doors, especially for kitchens which are small. However, you can make a difference again by being innovative in your interior design ideas. Add a little bit of carving & molding. That will add something 'extra' to the door thereby uplifting the overall look of your kitchen. And of course the handle knob - this needs to be modern and contemporary that will be apt with your kitchen. Opt for a handle that runs all along the length of the door and provides an awe-inspiring sparkle that will be very much in line with the rest of your kitchen.

Interior Design and Interior Decorating - Some Definitions

Interior Decoration and Interior Design, although related disciplines, are different in terms of their application. Interior Decoration is the process of decorating a house with regards to finishes (for example wallpaper and paint, choice of furniture and fittings as well as adding finishing touches and decorations such as paintings and objets d'art. All of this provide a certain "feel" to a house but essentially the underlying structure of the house is not changed.
Interior decoration is normally professionally done by Interior Decorators although recently the trend has been for people to learn about Interior Decorating through various courses or books and then apply the techniques themselves-usually on a shoestring budget. The whole objective of Interior Decorating is to make a house aesthetically pleasing and at the same time, unique, since it should reflect the owner's specific personality and tastes.
Interior design on the other hand is more integrated with the architecture of a building and a professional Interior Designer will work closely with architects and builders to make choices regarding the integral design of the whole house or building. This includes looking at choices with regards to room layout, choice of cabinets and tiles and lots of other design factors. While the Interior Design budget for new developments used to be minimal, it is recognized these days that incorporating Interior Design into the project means the difference between a run-of-the-mill development and one that contributes to the branding and life-style image of the project. The money spent on Interior Design is therefore seen as a worthwhile investment in the whole property development process.
Homeowners are spending more and more to improve their homes. Since it is relatively easy to change the appearance of a house by changing the finishings and fittings a large portion of this money goes into Interior Decorating. The growing popularity in do-it-yourself Interior Decorating has meant that a whole industry around Interior Decorating courses, books and TV Shows have also sprung up, and it has become a popular hobby for married couples. Innovative Interior Decoration ideas, which cost less but at the same time giving the impression of style and class, are in vogue.
Young entrepreneurs have also seen the gap and there is a growing demand for information and courses on how to break into the Interior Design and Interior Decoration Industry. This has also given the home {interior decoration industry a boost.
Although the trend recently is for people to tackle the exciting task of transforming a house themselves, it has to be recognized that this falls more in the area of Interior Decorating. Interior Design still requires study of the context of Interior Design, the theory of good design, knowledge of the technical advances in the engineering industry for both residential as well as commercial buildings and knowledge of the latest trends and advances in the Interior Design industry.
In short, an Interior Design project in which all the elements of design are pulled together is still the ambit of the professional designer who should be able to deliver on projects that extend beyond the boundaries of a hobby pastime.

4 Great Interior Design Ideas for Beginners

Everybody has a home or office space, but not everybody is a natural when it comes to interior decorating. If you are a newbie to design, here are four interior design ideas and tips to help you get started.

Some people seem to have  a natural eye for design and always seem to have great interior design ideas. I am not one of these people. Just the other week I was setting up a new office and was looking for a nice accent piece. In the store I came up with a combination of items that I liked, and then decided to ask one of the employees for a second opinion. My idea was shot down as combining different styles. So I sought another opinion, and got a similar answer. I asked myself, "If I like it, isn't that good enough?" Maybe for the eclectic and a private room, but for a business office, it is not good enough. Interior design should make a statement, and "I have no taste" is not what I was going for.

So I started doing some research for interior design ideas, and I learned a lot. Here are four great tips that I found useful, and if you are design newbie, hopefully you will too.

  1. It's o.k to copy ideas from wherever you can find them. Your friend may not naturally be a great designer, but if she watches enough HGTV, she may have become one over time. If she has a room you particularly like, feel free to copy it, substituting in your own tastes. Watch some home decorating shows, and read magazines, you will soon have plenty of interior design ideas from which to choose. Take ideas from wherever you can get them, and then tweak them to make them your own.

  2. Look at your living space and keep only what you really love. If you don't like something, or could care less if it was there, get rid of it! Either throw it away, donate it to charity, or box it up if it has family value. Just because it originally belonged to Great Aunt Delilah, doesn't mean you have to display it. You can still keep it to hand down to the next generation, or hand it off to someone else in the family.

  3. Don't worry about defining a certain style that you like, after all, if you had a comprehensive idea of all the design styles available, you probably wouldn't be having this problem! But do define some basics of what you like or dislike. For example, do you like bright and bold colors, or more muted and natural tones? Do you want warm or cool colors? Do you like simple, straight lines? Or more curved or complex designs? Do you like thick or thin furnishings? Do you like to be daring, or would you rather be safe? By answering these types of questions, you can come up with your own design style and some great interior design ideas to bring it to pass.

  4. Don't forget to accessorize. Great interior design ideas do not have to be expensive, it is amazing what you can do with a little paint, some rearranging, and getting rid of things you don't really about. Then add a wonderful piece of art that brings the whole room together. The right painting or sculpture can make an entire room, just make sure it is something that love, and that you have just the perfect spot to put it.

There are so many interior design ideas out there, but hopefully these few tips will get you started, especially if you feel like a design newbie like I did not so long ago. I did finish my office with a modern yet comfy feelingFind Article, so I know I am heading in the right direction!

Modern Interior Design Ideas and Art

Modern interior design ideas often include adding art. When chosen properly, the right piece can add just the touch of whimsy, color, or texture to all the spaces in your home or office, and not just to the traditional spaces for art like entryways or dens.

Modern interior design ideas are as varied as there are people who come up with them. The role of modern art pieces within the design, things like bronze sculpture, wood turnings, abstract paintings, stone etchings, and the like, is central to making a living space more pleasant and intriguing. They often work well with the other colors, shapes, and textures you choose to put in any given space. Perhaps the best reason to include them in an interior design is precisely because they are complementary to nearly any space. Whether that space is large and open with very few items, or small and cluttered, the right piece in the right place can make a valuable contribution.

A surprising thing about many modern interior design ideas is how available they are to almost anyone. Let's say, for example, that you are in a shop or gallery and you just fall in love with a certain sculpture or painting. Maybe you can afford it without a second thought and are happy to take it away as part of your growing collection. But maybe it is priced a little above what you can really justify. But you still want it. Never fear, thankfully, many times those pieces you desire can be purchased over time. They are not just for the rich and famous. Many galleries even have layaway programs. If you find a piece that is too much for your budget, just communicate with the curator and see what might be worked out. Before you know it, you'll have it paid for and displayed proudly in your home or office.

So how does a piece of art fit within the modern interior design ideas that you may have? Will it be a clash? Will it "work"? These are great questions to ask yourself. Many people are particularly perplexed on how to implement them in the parts of their living spaces that are not the normal locations for such things. Within a home, in particular, there are the normal entryways and hallways that often become the new display location for many of the pieces one might acquire. A beautiful sculpture displayed proudly on an appropriate stand makes an interesting and inviting experience for your guests when they first step into your home. A nice big abstract painting may be just the thing to spark some interesting conversation with your guests in your office. But what about the other rooms, like the bathroom, or a bedroom. These spaces need help and are often overlooked.

Art can go just about anywhere, if it is the right material. With a little thought and effort, and some help from experts when needed, your modern interior design ideas can be successfully implemented throughout whatever space you want. In the bathroom, paying attention to the naturally increased humidity level is important. A long hot shower or bath is certainly going to make some art pieces impractical to add to the space. You don't have to settle for cold, intimidating, modern empty bathroom spaces. Just add the right bronze sculpture or properly protected piece of abstract art on the wall and the whimsy or color you introduce will absolutely make the space come alive.

This same principle applies equally to all the rooms in your house. Be bold. Try what you think you will like. If you don't like something, you can always change it. Have fun with the emotional responses that art creates in you and others. If you doArticle Submission, you will experience how well modern interior design ideas and art really can go together.

Finding Your Home Interior Design Style

There are many distinctive schools and styles of home interior design. There is a design to cater to every style, from the basic country kitchens and cottage bedrooms to the over the top Art Deco and more formal English styles. More often than not, our homes display a patchwork of different interests, cultures, styles, and ideals. Most people employ a professional interior design company to redo their homes as it can be hard to harmonize a style yourself.
Have you ever entered a room or home that evokes emotions or memories? A real sense of peace and happiness overwhelms you as soon as you enter the room. Why do you feel this way? Is it the decor, the furniture, the rugs, or the architecture? Generating this atmosphere for each room is the mission of a home interior design professional. Determining which interior design trends speak to you is the first step toward transforming your space.
Whether it is bold or subtle, funky or classy, flashy or plain, home design can be any of these and more. In order to build the ideal environment, it can be a lifelong collection of distinctive pieces; you do not have to create the perfect room overnight. As people grow older, they usually spend less time at work and more time at home, so they focus on making their living space more comfortable, more relaxing, and more in line with their psychological needs.
The style is truly in the details when it comes to home interior - design. To create a harmonized home, everything from paint color and architecture, down to light fixtures and furniture choices, are all considerations to factor in. Typically, selecting a style starts by evaluating the outside of the house. You must pick if you want modern or classic design, or an American or more European approach. In order to make your visions of home renovation a reality, a professional interior designer can help you.
Besides the styles discussed above, you may find some interior - design services offering "Feng Shui." This type of home interior design is based on the principle that how you arrange objects in your home, the color palette you choose, and how you position interior spaces can boost how you feel and help you meet your goals. Feng Shui involves the addition of natural elements and getting rid of clutter. The ultimate goal is feeling at peace and happy in your own space, regardless of which custom designs you select.
